Google and get memtest and use it to test your ram as bad ram can write bad data to the hard drive making it look bad!

That usually signifies either ram or graphics failure. Try reseating your ram. If that doesn't work you may have to take it to a professional for diagnosis!

I wouldn't touch one of those with someone elses barge pole! Those all-in-one's are based on laptop technology rather than PC technology. This means that it will most likely have the same graphics fault as their laptops which means it most likely wont last more than 18 months and will …

Hi all. As the title says, does your ISP take the p***? So many Internet Service Providers (ISP's) out there seem to think they can make whatever rules they like and rip us all off with them! Does yours do that to you? I have heard a few stories that …

Why on earth would you need to overclock a CPU that's already just about the rastest on the market??? I see absolutely no point in overclocking that at all!

You will have to get your friend to send it again after changing it's file extension. For example, abcd.exe to abcd.old. Once you have downloaded it, you just change the extension back to abcd.exe again.

Try some different ram in it, if that makes no difference then it's probably going to need a new motherboard.

Try burning it at a slow speed, x4 or less. If that still doesn't help, try some different brand blank disks.

HP don't support windows 7 for that particular model. What version of windows 7 have you put on it? Is it 32bit or 64bit?

That would be illegal unless you use the key from your old laptop and no longer use your old laptop.

Do you want to put windows 7 32bit or windows 7 64bit on it? It can run either but I would recommend 32bit as it has far less compatability issues than the 64bit. The 64bit version is however a little quicker. If you go with the 32bit version then you …
That is bad news coming from a reputable vendor
Hmmmm, I wouldn't call HP that personally. A heck of a lot of their DV series laptops have serious manufacturing flaws in them that are repairable but HP charge several hundered to replace the motherboard with another one with the very …

I'd advize against getting an HP DV series laptop. They are well known for very expensive graphics failure. I use a Lenovo x61 and it does have a number lock (via the Function key) if that's any help!

Vaio's have a fuse close to the power socket. It's rectangular and usually white in colour. It might be worth checking that to see if it's open circuit. I have a Vaio in the workshop with the exact same symptoms as yours (the fuse is good on this one) and …

Just to check, you did fit the motherboard standoff's to the case in the correct positions before fitting the motherboard didn't you? I ask this because I have seen it done wrong before. If you don't know what I mean by motherboard standoff's, google for a picture of one!

In short, no! You describe classic graphics failure. Your repair shop will telly you that you need a new motherboard, 9 times out of 10 you don't. The usual cause is a break in the soldering between the graphics chip and the motherboard. This can usually be repaired with a …

A simple test. Unplug all the power supply internal cables. Then with the motherboard power cable (the biggest one) short the green wire to any black with a paperclip or bit of wire. It should spin it's fan up, if it doesn't, it's a dodo!
