External hard drives are not designed to be run all the time so don't move across any files that you constantly need. Have you tried running the disk cleanup wizard to free up some space?

Did you replace your ram or did you add to it? Does the speed of the new one match the speed of the old? Have a look at the labels on the ram for this info!

You will need to get a professional to fix that problem as there could well be damage to the inside of the laptop!

The first thing to do is to plug it into an external monitor or TV to see if it happens on that too. If it does, then your graphics chipset is faulty which will mean you need a new motherboard. If it doesn't then you most likely need a new …

Try removing the ram to see if it will beep. If it does, refit the ram and try it again. If you have 2 ram sticks then try them 1 at a time.

It's mostly done with tracking cookies. They are put onto your computer without your knowledge or consent and are used by big companies to track what you do so that they can send adverts for products to your computer that they think you may like.

On the bottom of it or under the battery it will have a sticker stating it's power requirements. It should be 19 volts, not 12 volts, and 3.16 amps or more. If your friend has a 12 volt supply then it's the wrong one. On HP machines (Compaq was bought …

The moment I began reading your post I thought PSU. Looks like you need to replace it to me. Be careful as some of the older Optiplex pc's had PSU's that were wired differently to the norm. If you should need it, I have all the wiring info to allow …

120mb of ram? Is that definitely all it has? If so, getting atleast 512mb in it will make it a lot quicker. 1gig will make it quicker still!

How good are you at repairing laptops? I am co-owner of a small computer repair business and at least %80 of the work that we get is laptops. From replacing power sockets to diagnosing and repairing dead laptops. There is a heck of a lot to learn. Opening some laptops …

I have used the registry cleaner in Ccleaner on hundreds of computers and it's the only registry cleaner I fully trust. It can make a difference in speed even to a brand new installation of windows. The thing most people overlook is de-fragmenting hard drives. Defraggler is free and can …

Sata data cables are cheap, you can get one, cut one end off, and solder it directly to the pins of the broken socket. Check it with a test meter to figure out whick wire is which!

Emachine are well known for their PSU's failing and taking lots of the hardware out with them including (but not always) motherboard, ram, cpu, hard drive, and opticals. As an example, I have personally come across 2 Emachine PSU's putting 48 volts to the 12 volt rail and no component …

This is a bit of advice rather than help with your malware problem. Get yourself a new power supply unit (PSU) as soon as possible. That model of eMachine is fitted with the Bestec 250watt PSU. It is the most cheaply built PSU I have ever come across. Good PSU's …

I have dealt with quite a few customers with external SATA hard drives and the 2 main problems are heat and being dropped. Drives in small un-ventilated enclosures tend to overheat if left running for extended periods of time. If you get a well ventilated or actively cooled enclosure then …

I found this via google - http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/broadband-download-monitor-frequently-asked-questions.html but have not tried it. Avast and WOT don't show it as a bad site so hopefully the software is malware free but I cannot guarantee that it is.

The simplest and cheapest thing to try first would be a different network cable. If that makes no difference then get the mobo replaced under warranty as you yourself suggested.

Right click on your "My Computer" and click manage from the list. Click storage then disk management then have a look at all partitions. Post anything you see that you don't understand here and we will help further.

Download, install, update, and do a full scan with Mbam. Google will easily find it. Avast only scans for viruses, Mbam will scan for malware.
